The National Transportation Safety Board on Tuesday issued recommendations in response to last year's deadly Metro-North train derailment in the Bronx.

The agency is calling for inward and outward facing audio and image recorders to be installed inside the cab that drives the train that would monitor both the conductor and the track at the same time.

The board says those recorders would give them crucial insight into the moments leading up to an accident like the one on the Hudson line back on December 1.

Four people were killed and dozens hurt when a train jumped the tracks in Spuyten Duyvil.

The NTSB also suggests that Metro-North install more speed signs that indicate temporary and permanent speed restrictions.

Investigators say Metro-North has signs posted for temporary speed restrictions throughout the railway but not in the area of the accident.

Senator Charles Schumer welcomed the recommendations and called for them to be enacted immediately.

He said that he sees no reason why they can't be installed within the next six months.

"Metro-North should not wait for the cameras to be mandatory. They should act now before there is another accident," Schumer said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority issued a statement, saying, "The safety and security of our customers is Metro-North’s most important concern, and it is a concern we share with the NTSB. We have received the NTSB's recommendations and we are studying them closely. Metro-North is working with the NTSB to address questions about implementation of the report’s recommendations."
