A man is recovering after falling in between two subway cars Friday morning in Manhattan.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the man was running down the stairs at the Wall Street station along the 2 and 3 lines when he tripped.

He fell in between two subway cars of a train already in the station.

The man was taken out alive and rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.

The incident caused delays for much of the morning commute.

"That's about the third or fourth train that I've waited for, and it's completely packed. Absolutely no space to even breathe maybe. But hopefully another train comes soon," said one straphanger.

"It's been delayed at least for 10, 15 minutes. I actually was going to email my boss because of that. I didn't know that there was an incident earlier but that would certainly be a good reason," said another straphanger.

Subway service along the 2 and 3 lines has since resumed.
