The New York City Marathon brought record ridership on the subway.

While runners raced to the finish line of the marathon, subway riders also flocked to the turnstiles.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reports that 2.89 million riders rode the subway on November 3, setting a new Sunday record.

According to agency statistics, average Sunday ridership in 2012 was just under 2.5 million riders.
