A new wave of retail stores is setting up shop in the city's subway system.

A Uniqlo opened Thursday at Union Square Station in Manhattan.

It's the second in a series of "pop-up stores" inking month-to-month leases for small, temporarily vacant underground storefronts as part of a Metropolitan Transportation Authority pilot program.

The MTA says it hopes that the program encourages more stores to consider opening up subway locations.
