Select Bus Service is coming to 125th Street next year, months after a plan to bring the speedier buses to Harlem was tabled.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the city Department of Transportation have announced that SBS buses will begin running along the M60 line, which includes a long, slow stretch of 125th Street.
"It's been an ongoing dialogue," said MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast. "That's an important route for us if we can deliver it."
The agencies had put the expansion plans on ice in July, citing community opposition.
Now, the the buses will begin running in April, allowing riders to pay fares before boarding from any entrance.
Five SBS lines are currently running in the city, with a sixth set to come into service in Brooklyn next month.
The buses run in their own lanes and make fewer stops, and have been praised for reducing travel times by 20 percent while boosting ridership.
