Officials aren't sure what caused a water main break in the Bronx that snarled service on the 6 line during the Monday morning commute.

The 12-inch water main broke at around 6 a.m. Monday at 140th Street and Bruckner Boulevard in Mott Haven, flooding the 143rd Street and St. Mary's station on the 6 line.

Traffic was backed up in the area as crews worked for hours to pump out the water.

Power was restored shortly before 8:30 a.m.

The Department of Environmental Protection says the main dates back to 1880.
