A veteran official has been tapped for the top spot at New York City Transit.

Thomas Prendergast, Governor Andrew Cuomo's nominee to lead the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, has picked Carmen Bianco to serve as acting President of New York City Transit.

Bianco is currently the Senior Vice President of Subways, and has been in mass transit and railroad management for three decades.

He'll oversee the largest mass transit system in North America, as well as lead in the rebuilding and mitigation process in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
