Full R Subway Service To Return On Friday Morning

  • Text size: + -

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that the R subway train will start running once more between Brooklyn Heights to Lower Manhattan during the Friday morning rush.

The subway line's Montague Tube, which goes under the East River, was flooded with salt water by Hurricane Sandy.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority spent more than a month repairing the tunnel, constructing anew its electrical and signal systems.

Earlier this month, R trains service was restored between 34th Street and Whitehall Street in Manhattan.

The governor said that R service could be temporarily suspended in the future to allow for further repairs.

The two sections of the city subway system that remain suspended are the A line on the Rockaways and the 1 line between Rector Street to South Ferry in Lower Manhattan.
