With A train service in the Rockaways down for the foreseeable future, a free shuttle train will connect the peninsula to the rest of Queens again.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said the newly named H train will start running between 4 a.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The H will run every 15 minutes between the Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue station and the Beach 90-Holland station.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority created the H shuttle by putting 20 subway cars from Ozone Park onto flatbeds and putting them back on the rails at the Rockaway Park-Beach 116 station.

The A train tracks from Howard Beach to the Rockaways were almost totally destroyed by flooding during Hurricane Sandy, and a full restoration of service could take months.

A shuttle bus is transporting commuters from Mott Avenue to the Howard Beach stop.

MTA officials said signals west of Beach 90th to Beach 116th street were too badly damaged for customers' use and were still being fixed Monday.

Rockaways residents commuting to Manhattan can use a ferry service that runs during morning rush hours to Pier 11 near Wall Street, with return service available in the evening.

Each one-way ticket costs $2 and includes a free transfer to the East 34th Street Pier.

There is also free parking across from the ferry landing on Beach 108th Street and Beach Channel Drive.
