NY1 VIDEO: Earlier this month, we took a look back at our coverage of the protests at the navy bombing range in Vieques. Hundreds were arrested during the demonstrations in May 2000. The protests continued into the following year, when a group of prominent New Yorkers, including Rev. Al Sharpton, were arrested. Dubbed the Vieques Four, they were sentenced on May 23, 2001. As we take a look back at 20 years of New York 1, here's Taina Hernandez's report on the fate of the four men.
NY1 FOLLOW-UP: All four would ultimately be allowed to serve their sentences at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. President Bush announced the following month that the naval exercises on Vieques would stop within two years. They officially ended in May 2003.
