NY1 VIDEO: For years, NY1 followed the fight over Anastasia and Alba Somoza's education. The twins - who both have cerebral palsy - were thrust into the spotlight when one of the girls asked then-President Clinton to help her sister. As we take a look back at 20 years of NY1, the station revisits Annika Pergament's report from October 4, 1994 on the settlement that would allow both girls to receive the services they needed.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: The years since have been filled with both achievements and challenges for the Somoza twins. In 2002, their mother would sue the city again, arguing that Alba did not actually complete the requirements for the high school diploma she had received. As a result of the suit, Alba would continue to receive educational services for several years. Alba now teaches art at a program for disabled children while training to be a museum docent.

Anastasia graduated from Georgetown University and interned with the Clinton Global Initiative. However, she was forced to delay her start at the London School of Economics because Medicaid would not pay for her to bring the aide who helps her with daily tasks overseas. The Somoza family instead raised the money themselves. So far, they have enough to cover her first year, and Anastasia starts classes next week.
