Coverage of the 49th annual New York Film Festival continues with a look at a new end-of-the-world fantasy set in New York City that features NY1's own beloved anchor Pat Kiernan. NY1's George Whipple filed the following report.

The New York Film Festival red carpet at Lincoln Center got a taste of the apocalypse.

"4:44 Last Day On Earth" stars Willem Dafoe and Shanyn Leigh. It is a story of the last few days in New York City.

The movie is directed by a quintessential New York underground director, Abel Ferrara.

George Whipple: Tell me a little bit about this movie. It looks like a valentine to New York, in a way.

Abel Ferrara: Yeah, it's a valentine to New York. It's a Valentine to a couple. It's about an older guy living with a younger girl. It's about how you survive in the modern day. And the point is, whether it's the last day on Earth, hey man, every day could be your last day on Earth.

For Ferrara, his newest film is all about relationships.

"You have earthquakes that put the earth off its axis, when you live in this kind of world. I mean, it's a metaphor, but hey, if you don't take care of your place, you're not going to have it," he says.

To make it authentically New York on the big screen, Ferrara got NY1's morning anchor Pat Kiernan to act as himself in the movie.

"Pat, you outdid yourself, bro," says Ferrara. "We tried to get an actor to do you, but we couldn't. He couldn't come close. And he did it without the director there. I stayed up all that night worrying about him, I gave him three pages of emails."

Between NY1 and Ferrara, how much more New York can a movie get?
