A new year, a new house, and now, a new dog for one Hurricane Sandy victim.
Patricia Dresch welcomed "Little Mikey," a rescued Daschund mix, into her new Tottenville home Thursday.
The adoption was coordinated by Rep. Michael Grimm and the Humane Society of the United States.
Little Mikey was set to be euthanized before he was matched up with Dresch.
"He's going to be there for me, and we're going to enjoy each other," Dresch said. "I'm going to spoil him rotten."
"The human-animal bond is so powerful and can be a healing bond, and we know that everything Pat has been through, that this will give her a companion and someone to care for, and someone to care for her," said Michael Markarian, chief program and policy officer of the Humane Society of the United States.
Dresch's original Tottenville home was destroyed by the storm.
Both her husband and 13-year-old daughter died during the storm.
