A big crowd turned out Tuesday as a Staten Island favorite officially reopened more than a year after Hurricane Sandy nearly destroyed it.

The Marina Cafe sits right on Great Kills Harbor and was badly damaged by flooding during the storm.

The cafe's owner, Sam Corigliano, said that in reopening the Island staple, he had to make sure it lived up to customers' expectations.

"It's like months and months of anticipation," Corigliano said. "I guess it's like a child waiting for Christmas day, and this is my Christmas day."

"We're here winter, we're here summer, we're here all the time, and through construction, my husband and I came in all the time," said one person, who said that she and her husband were the Marina Cafe's first customers more than three decades ago.
