Members of the New York Road Runners club presented a sizable check Tuesday to Staten Island organizations working with Hurricane Sandy victims.

Back in October, the Road Runners partnered with the borough president's office to sponsor the first Staten Island Day during the Staten Island Half Marathon.

The $125,000 raised that day was donated to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and ECHO, the Emergency Children's Health Organization.

"There are so many people that are still displaced," said Frank Siller, chairman and CEO of the Siller Foundation. "A lot of people care, there's no question about it, but a lot of people move on and they forget that other people are still out of their homes.

"People on Staten Island have just such a strong spirit and have just been amazing through this last year, but a lot of work remains," said Mary Wittenberg, president and CEO of New York Road Runners.

Organizers said that "Staten Island Day" will become an annual celebration. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
