Volunteers on Staten Island did their part Saturday to provide Thanksgiving meals to hundreds of families in need as part of the seventh annual Turkey Giveaway in Stapleton.

Two hundred families received the meals, including some victims of Hurricane Sandy.

"Our ultimate goal is just to give them a meal, to give them a meal for the holidays, to bring some happiness to an event, again, one year after Sandy, just to kind of be here, continue to help pick up the pieces," said Michael Koch, district manager with Shop Rite.

"It's one step that we can take to make sure that families on Staten Island, families in need are going to have a wonderful Thanksgiving this year," said state Senator Diane Savino of Staten Island.

Another giveaway was held in New Brighton.

The events were put together by local lawmakers, churches and unions. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
