Hurricane Sandy victims still living in hotels under federal assistance can extend their stay for a few more weeks.

FEMA has announced a new checkout deadline of September 16 for New Yorkers enrolled in the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program.

They say the 15 day extension was granted at the request of state officials.

Authorities say close to 6,000 New York households were assisted in the program in the aftermath of the storm, with just 28 still remaining. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
