This holiday weekend, parts of the Rockaways will have something for the first time all summer: swimmers.

With the Army Corps of Engineers making progress in replacing sand dunes, new parts of the beach will be open to both swimmers and surfers.

Swimming will now be allowed from Beach 94th to Beach 109th Streets.

There will be an access point at Beach 115th Street.

Certain areas between Beach Ninth to Beach 148th Streets will have lifeguards on duty throughout the weekend.

Sand is being added from Beach 110th to Beach 130th Streets, and those sections remain closed. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
