An elderly resident of the New Dorp Beach section of Staten Island told NY1 on Monday she thinks burglars are behind a fire over the weekend that destroyed her home, which was just renovated from Hurricane Sandy.

Mary Roberts, 90, says she just recently moved back in to her home. She was on vacation when she says someone broke in Sunday morning, stole two TVs and a car and then set a fire.

Police say the home was also burglarized last month, when someone stole hundreds of dollars in cash, credit cards and Robert's driver's license.

Roberts says it took $45,000 to repair the flood damage after last year's storm.

"We fix it all up. Fixed it beautiful, and they destroyed it. I don't know I hope they can get the guys who do it," Roberts said.

The home is considered unlivable because of smoke and water damage.

Roberts says she plans on staying with relatives.

The New York City Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
