A group of city students and parents is suing the state over how difficult it is to remove subpar teachers.

The lawsuit claims that the performance evaluations of senior teachers do not factor strongly enough in their employment eligibility.

New York City Parents Union, the group behind the suit, said that many underachieving educators stay on just because they've been in their positions for so long.

The group wants performance reviews to be taken more seriously and for the state to lay off teachers who do not meet its standards.
