The city is taking steps to attract high-quality teachers to community-based pre-K programs.

The mayor announced Monday that the city will use some of the $300 million in funding recently approved in the state budget to make salaries for teachers at community-based organizations competitive with those at public schools.

The new plan establishes a pay floor for certified teachers based on their own level of education.

Right now, the starting salary for public school teachers is about $10,000 higher than those for teachers in community-based organizations.
