Students, parents, and staff gathered Friday outside PS 41 in Greenwich Village to speak out against standardized testing.

They expressed support for others across the city who have been protesting the English Language Arts exams that third through fifth grade students took last week.

Protesters say the state is not listening to their concerns.

"Over the last two years as we've implemented the Common Core Learning Standards one of the pieces that's been a disconnect is any sense of feedback and transparency around the New York State exams," said Kelly Shannon, a city principal.

"We're very concerned that we're not being listened to. We're concerned about privatization. We're concerned about teachers having to teach to the test where we try so hard to instill learning and a love of learning and not have to instill anxiety for these tests," said one rally attendee.

Educators also say some of the questions mention the names of specific products and are upset about the length of the three-day exam. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
