City students are among the millions across the country who will serve as a testing lab for the new Common Core exams.

In June of this year, students in 36 states will take a trial test based on the new math and English standards.

This will give education officials the opportunity to see how well the questions have been designed.

It'll also let them plan for how to integrate the standards into the school curriculum.

The tests will be given both in paper form and in a computer-based version.

Common core supporters say that they expect to see a drop in performance but a better reflection of student skills.

The scores won't count, but real exams are due to begin next year.
