Dads, get ready to pack that lunch box and escort your little one to class.
On Tuesday, fathers are being encouraged to take their children to school.
Education officials say taking part in the daily drop-off routine is a way to stay engaged in their children's lives.
"Bringing dads together and letting them know the imperative of taking their kids to school and the investment that they are actually making in their kids by taking them to school and the blessing that could be realized from taking their kids to school," said one person at the event.
"The importance of having dads involved in one child's education and overall well-being outcomes is something that we strongly believe in, and we know, and the research backs up," said Robert Martinez of New York City Children's Services.
"I'm going to make sure he has his father," said another person. "It's tough when you grow up without your father, and I see the difference."
"Dads Take Your Child to School Day" is part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's citywide Father Initiative.
