A 10-year old Staten Island boy was arrested for bringing an unloaded handgun to school last week.
The Department of Education says the fourth grader brought the weapon to P.S. 373 on Friday.
Officials say he showed it to two students before it was identified by faculty, who called police.
The boy is charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
"This young man menaced some of his schoolmates on the 12th [of July] and he was arrested by NYPD personnel. The gun was unloaded. It was a .45 caliber and it was defaced," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Phil Pulaski.
No one at P.S. 373 was hurt, and school officials brought in counselors to speak to students.
The investigation into the incident is being handled by Family Court due to the boy's age.
