A music teacher in a Bronx high school was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with rape, a criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child, after authorities say he had a sexual relationship with his 16-year-old student.
Brian Kearins, 33, taught the 16-year-old girl in Lehman High School.
Sources tell NY1 that the sexual encounter took place on school grounds.
The girl's mother notified the school, which then notified police, according to sources.
Kearins had worked at Lehman since 2003, according to the Department of Education.
DOE officials say Kearins has been removed from Lehman and reassigned away from students, and the department is seeking his termination.
