A group of Horace Mann alumni and former teachers are calling for an independent investigation into allegations of sex abuse.
Several members of the Horace Mann Action Coalition held a vigil in front of the school Thursday evening in support of the victims.
They said the school needs an independent probe similar to the one conducted recently at Penn State.
"This school has got to be open and honest about what happened, otherwise there is no future," said Horace Mann alumnus Rob Hollander.
The vigil coincided with the first meeting of the Head of the School, Board of Trustees Chairman and Alumni Council since the allegations were revealed in June.
In response to the vigil, Horace Mann released a statement.
"We respect the participants' right to express their views and share their concerns for the survivors' group," the statement read. "We are working hard to address the unprecedented situation and will continue to do so. We will continue our dialogue with alumni and others. We are committed to finding ways to address the events of the past and to help the community heal."
