SANT'AGATA DE' GOTI, ITALY - After visiting Capri Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio headed to Sant'Agata de' Goti, one of his ancestral hometowns in Italy, on Wednesday.
The town is where the mayor's grandfather was born and lived before he moved to New York City in 1905.
The mayor and his family are having a homecoming, as the town celebrated that someone with roots from a small village in Italy was elected mayor of New York City.
The streets were lined with American and Italian flags, and a picture of the de Blasio family was posted in the town's main square.
There were welcome signs in many of the local windows.
A pizzeria even created a Bill de Blasio pizza.
De Blasio has visited the village in recent years, most recently in 2010 with his wife and children.
Local residents cheered him on during his campaign for mayor and celebrated on election night as well.
