Police and U.S. Marshals are investigating a shooting in Queens late Tuesday night involving an alleged drug smuggler.
Sources say marshals with the fugitive task force went to a home located at on 175th Street and 144th Drive in Springfield Gardens around 11 p.m. to arrest Oswald Lewis on a federal narcotics warrant.
They say Lewis came out from behind a door wearing a bulletproof vest and exchanged gunfire with the marshals.
He then withdrew to another room and fired more shots before he came out and was arrested.
Lewis was shot once in the hand and was taken to Jamaica Hospital.
"He was like, 'Don't kill me, please don't shoot me, don't shoot me I'm from Brooklyn I'm not from here," said Dino Lysaith, a witness.
"It was pretty scary especially around here it's so quiet. We wasn't expecting that so kind of woke the neighborhood up," said Kevin Rodney, a neighbor.
Police spent several hours Wednesday morning looking for evidence around the neighborhood.
Sources say the narcotics warrant was from Virginia, but that Lewis was also wanted for a stabbing in Brooklyn.
