A 23-year-old man was hospitalized early Monday morning after getting shot by police in Brooklyn.
The New York City Police Department says it happened around 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Liberty and Van Siclen Avenues in East New York.
Police say they received a 911 call about a man with gun, and when officers arrived the suspect ran.
Investigators say during the chase the suspect turned around and pointed a gun at the officers. That's when one of them fired a shot, hitting the man in the torso.
"I checked my kids because it sounded so loud I checked them to make sure they were all right I checked out the window saw a lot of people I saw cop cars," said one resident who lives nearby.
A weapon was recovered at the scene.
Sources tell NY1 police are still trying to determine if the suspect fired any shots.
He was taken to Brookdale Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
None of the officers were hurt.
