A city police officer has been arraigned on charges he struck his pregnant wife with a car on a Bronx street over the weekend.

Investigators say 29-year-old Julio Jimenez is charged with assault, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury.

Police say his wife was getting out of the car Saturday around 5 p.m. near 2863 Dewey Avenue in Throggs Neck when Jimenez allegedly drove off.

Prosecutors say he got out of the car, looked at the woman on the ground and called her "crazy" before driving off.

The victim, who is 38 weeks pregnant, suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to the hospital.

Jimenez has been suspended from the police department.
