An New York City police detective who investigators say accidentally shot his partner in the wrist has been fired.

The department says Jay Poggi, who was assigned to the 75th Precinct in Brooklyn, was let go Friday.

Officials could not give NY1 any background on the decision.

This follows the April 24 shooting.

Investigations believe Poggi's revolver accidentally discharged as he and his partner were sitting in his unmarked NYPD car after their shift.

Prosecutors say he drove his partner to Jamaica Hospital, where he was given a field sobriety test and failed.

He was arraigned on a drunk driving charge.
