An New York City police officer who investigators say accidentally shot his partner in the wrist was arraigned Thursday
on a drunk driving charge.

The Queens district attorney's office says 57-year-old Jay Poggi, who is assigned to the 75th Precinct, drove his partner to the hospital after accidentally shooting him while showing him his gun.

It happened early Thursday morning in Poggi's unmarked police car after his shift had ended.

The DA's office says Poggi took a field sobriety test that registered a .113 percent blood alcohol level.

The legal limit in New York is .08 percent.

Officials say Poggi, who is suspended without pay, later refused to a Breathalyzer test at the 112th Precinct.

His driver's license has been suspended.

His partner underwent surgery at Jamaica Hospital.
