A charity hockey game between city police officers and firefighters turned into a brawl at Nassau Coliseum this weekend.
The police and fire teams were playing their annual game Sunday when the benches suddenly cleared and the fists started flying.
Amateur video shows referees trying to regain control while gloves and sticks littered the ice.
"It's ridiculous. This is a charity game. They're supposed to be playing for charity and these guys, instead of playing for charity and enjoying themselves, they're gonna get into a brawl on the ice. It's ridiculous. It's sad. It's embarrassing," said one New Yorker.
"Very terrible for them to be out there fighting like that and it's supposed to be a charity purpose," said another New Yorker.
After a long delay and a lot of penalties the game restarted, and the NYPD eventually won 8-5.
The fire department declined to comment on the fight.
Police received NY1's request for comment, but have yet to put out a statement.
