Veteran journalist John Miller is re-joining the New York City Police Department and his former boss, Bill Bratton.
Sources say Miller is leaving CBS to take a high-level position in the area of counterterrorism and intelligence.
Miller served as deputy commissioner and spokesman for the department when Bratton was police commissioner under Rudolph Giuliani.
Miller stepped down in 1995, in part due to clashes with the Giuliani administration.
Bratton and Miller also worked together in Los Angeles, where Bratton led the police department and Miller served as the city's counter terrorism chief.
Miller also worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the director for national intelligence.
Bratton was named earlier this month as Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio's choice to succeed Ray Kelly as police commissioner.
