In the wake of the shooting of Kimani Gray and community protests, City Councilman Jumaane Williams held a youth empowerment seminar in East Flatbush Saturday.

The program at the Tilden Educational Campus included singing and dance performances, as well as workshops on gang violence and sex and domestic violence.

"We have various speakers who have expertise in those areas coming to the youth, speaking to them from their background, and informing them how to empower themselves and be better citizens in their community," said Allexeia Johnson, president of Students Taking Action Today.

"I hope they take that there are some places they can go," Williams said "It's not enough, but at some places, there are people who care about them, regardless of errors they've made, regardless of failures, who want to help them point in a better direction."

The seminar also coached youngsters on how to behave during interactions with the police. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
