The NYPD honored their fallen brothers and sisters at a memorial service in Manhattan on Thursday.

The Police Memorial Wall in Battery Park City now bears the names of the 15 officers who died in the line of duty last year.

Thirteen of them died as a result of illnesses believed to have been contracted following the September 11th terror attacks, during rescue and recovery efforts on.

Detective Peter Figoski was killed responding to a burglary and Police Officer Alain Schaberger died from injuries sustained during the arrest of a suspect in a domestic violence incident.

"They put the safety of others above their own and the honor and courage they showed in carrying out their duties is forever commemorated in this memorial," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"We commemorate the lives of 15 police officers who, in service to the people of our city, have earned their rightful place on this wall of heroes," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

The granite memorial, referred to as the “Sacred Precinct,” was dedicated in 1997. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
