The New York City Police Department has disciplined 17 officers for what some say were racially charged posts on Facebook during last year's West Indian American Day Parade.

Four of the officers face pending departmental trials.

Six others were hit with command disciplines, usually resulting in about 10 docked vacation days.

The rest received less severe punishments.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly launched an investigation after he says at least 20 negative comments about the parade were posted to Facebook.

One poster wrote, "Maybe next year they should have it on Rikers Island."

The New York Civil Liberties Union says government employees have a right to free speech in their private lives.
