A deadly accident over the weekend is bringing new scrutiny to dirt bike riding in the city.

Motorcycle riders say they find themselves at odds with some members of the community who say their kind of fun is annoying and dangerous.

The bikes have no headlights, blinkers or license plates and are not street legal.

On Saturday, a man was killed in the Bronx when his bike was struck by a police car.

The NYPD says it was an accident but people who knew the driver of the bike say the police went too far.

"I asked for them to leave us alone. We're just having fun that's all. We're not hurting nobody," said one rider.

"You got baseball parks everywhere. Basketball parks, football parks, lacrosse parks. My boys don't play lacrosse. Why not give us a place to ride," said another rider.

"It's really abrasive, you know loud. They're throwing it up, it can be a little harsh," said one city resident.

Adalberto Gonzalez, 26, was arrested in the Bronx accident.

Police say they caught him riding the wrong way on Manida Street in Hunts Point.

Authorities later said he ran from officers and tried to get away from them by jumping on the back of the motorcycle that got hit.

Gonzalez is facing charges including reckless endangerment. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
