A Manhattan man accused of stabbing a city police officer is due back in court next month after being arraigned on attempted murder charges.

Prosecutors say Terrence Hale, 26, stabbed Officer Eder Loor in the temple on Tuesday morning.

Loor and his partner were responding to a call of an emotionally disturbed person in East Harlem.

When the two officers approached Hale to tell him they were taking him to the hospital, police say Hale pulled out a knife and attacked Loor.

About 40 police officers stood outside the courthouse Friday night in support of Loor during Hale's arraignment.

"We're here this evening to make sure justice is done," said Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch. "We're here at this late hour for the arraignment of a person who tried to kill a New York City police officer. What's also different about this week is that it shows the level of violence that New York police officers face on a regular basis."

Loor underwent surgery at Mount Sinai and is expected to recover. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
