Friends and neighbors gathered over the weekend to remember Zurana Horton, 34, who was shot Friday as she protected children from gunfire, and police continue to search for two suspects in connection with the case.

Horton lost her life protecting kids in front of a supermarket as shots rang out following IS 298's school dismissal in Brownsville.

Residents called for a march from the scene of the crime through several housing developments to call for an end to gang violence on Sunday.

"She's a caring person, she's a very kind person. I love her. That's my baby, that's my baby. I'm gonna miss her a lot,” said one friend present at the Saturday vigil.

“Nobody's going to take care of that woman's kids the way she would. Know what I'm saying? And everybody here, we all just trying to help and trying to see what we could do to assist the family,” said another.

“I would want somebody to help me out and do the same thing for my family, cause we in the community and for the community about the community. It's us,” said a third.

An 11-year-old girl and another woman are recovering from their injuries.

Police don't think Horton was the intended target and are still looking for two suspects.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit
