Parks Department officials say the SeaGlass Carousel planned near Battery Park will come complete with fish instead of the traditional carousel horses.
As riders are whirled around, they will revolve on a maritime-like floor with panoramic screens and special lighting that will allow the carousel to operate at night.
The carousel is being sponsored by the Battery Conservancy and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation.
Set to open later this year, the carousel is being built near the original New York Aquarium, which was located at Castle Clinton from 1896 through 1941.
It will connect by ferry service to the current New York Aquarium in Coney Island.
