About 50,000 pounds of poultry are being delivered to community food pantries to help feed the city's hungry families.
The meat was donated to the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty for distribution to its community food pantries.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Jewish Labor Committee and the Empire Kosher Poultry announced the donation Friday at the Oneg Shabbos Food Pantry in Borough Park.
"The recession is putting particular strains on family food budgets and hard working community groups like Oneg Shabbos that provides emergency food assistance," said the mayor.
"In such tough times, we need to be sure that ever family in our community has access to health and wholesome foods," said Greg Rosenbaum, the chief executive officer Empire Kosher Poultry.
The donation will benefit 13,000 families.
