A roadside blast in Iraq has claimed the life of a local soldier.

Sergeant Jose Ulloa of Manhattan died on August 9th, a day after his vehicle was hit in Sadr City.

The 23-year-old was a driver with a transportation unit and had been in Iraq for a year.

Ulloa served in the Army for three-and-a-half years and was supposed to return in October, but re-enlisted for another two years.

His nephew said he was looking forward to coming home with his wife, who he met overseas, and their child, neither of whom had been to New York.

"He dedicated himself to something, so I was proud of him and sort of envious," said Uloa's nephew, Edwin Marmol.

Jose Ulloa was assigned to the 515th Transportation Company, 28th Transportation Battalion in Mannheim, Germany. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
