After two surgeries for acute glaucoma last week, Governor David Paterson will now have cataract surgery later this summer.

A spokeswoman for the governor said Monday that Paterson will be having the procedure done on his left eye in an effort to prevent further complications.

Paterson underwent two emergency surgeries last week after suffering a severe headache linked to previously undetected glaucoma.

The governor has opted to have the surgery before a family vacation in August, and will only require a few days of recovery.

Paterson is legally blind and cannot see out of his left eye because of an infection when he was an infant.
