Frigid temperatures are expected to hit the city over the next few days, pushing the Department of Homeless Services to bring as many people out of the cold as they can.

The DHS moved Wednesday into a Code Blue, which is when the service travels throughout the city encouraging the homeless to enter shelters.

Code Blue will last from 4 p.m. Wednesday through noon on Thursday because of the predicted wind chill of 20 degrees. The department has extra workers visiting areas where the homeless may be in order to move them into shelters.

In addition, heating vans and buses will be driving around the city, which the homeless can board in order to get warm.

Those who know of someone in their neighborhood who is in need of shelter are encouraged to call 311.
