While their significant others are busy conquering the world hip-hop, designers Rachel Roy and Alexis Phifer are trying to make their mark in the fashion industry. NY1’s Cheryl Wills filed the following report on the collections they showed off during Fashion Week.

Manhattan-based designer Rachel Roy presented her spring 2008 collection at her 39th Street showroom just blocks from the tents. She said this season one of her inspirations came from the idea of balancing a woman's feminine and masculine side.

"The femininity was shown through the art and kind of the silhouette of the linear, very relaxing, soothing air and water,” said Roy. “And then the masculine side kind of it comes from the chains and a bit of the harder embellishment."

Throughout the space, models posed next to artwork because Roy was also influenced by trips to the Museum of Modern Art with her daughter.

"I took her to the MoMa and it's all about these paintings that some people can consider a mess and other consider them beautiful, but she loved it because she thought that she could do that and then she felt more of an artist,” said Roy. “And so we started spending a lot of time there and Monet's Water Lilies was an inspiration."

Husband and hip-hop mogul Damon Dash was there capturing every moment.

"I'm like a proud parent, but also I can't believe it,” said Dash. “I want to send this back to my homeboys Uptown like, Îlook at Rachel.'”

Another hip-hop star who had plenty to celebrate was Kanye West. He not only released a new album, but his fiancŽe Alexis Phifer also debuted her first collection under the label Ghita.

The rapper/producer says he’s the one who asks for career advice.

"I play her songs over and over and over and ask for her opinion, but I think she's more confident in what she does than I am at what I do," said West.

With West in the front row, Phifer showcased her white-hot spring collection at Style 360 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea.

"My inspiration this season came from the 80s era," said Phifer.

From mini skirts to thigh-high dresses, these sexy silhouettes are perfect for a night out on the town.
