If you're looking to capture those precious moments in your life, the Zagat shopping guide has some suggestions on where to shop for cameras.

Adorama Camera
42 West 18th Street
(212) 741-0052

Zagat says "if you want it, it's probably here" at the "camera cornucopia," a "legendary" Flatiron "gem" that "has everything" new or used "for beginners and professionals." Surveyors say the "knowledgeable staffers" "know what they're talking about" and offer "some of the best deals in the city." Zagat adds those who say "oy vey," about the "disheveled environment" and "cluttered," "crowded aisles," may be happy to hear an expansion is scheduled for this year.

Out of a possible 30, Adorama Camera scores a 26 for quality, a 14 for display and an 18 for service. Zagat says prices are moderate.

B&H Photo-Video-Pro Audio
420 Ninth Avenue
(212) 444-6600

The "Disneyland of cameras," Zagat says this "block-long" Garment District "oasis" boasts an "enormous," "fairly-priced" selection managed with an inventive "tracking system" of "overhead bins." Surveyors say the "educated sales force" "turns the retail experience into an assembly line" in a "great" way. However, Zagat adds some say the "staff is not always the friendliest" and the "busy-as-Grand-Central-at-rush-hour" setting makes them "feel like rats in a maze," but Zagat says this shop is also scheduled for an expansion this year.

B&H Photo-Video-Pro Audio receives a 27 out of 30 for quality, a 20 for display and a 21 for service. Surveyors say prices are moderate.
