Convicted Subway Bomb Plotter's Family Released
By: NY1 News
Detained family members of a man convicted of plotting to bomb a subway station have been released.
A civil rights organization says Shahawar Matin Siraj's mother and daughter posted a $35,000 bond.
They were detained for immigration violations on January 9th, one day after Siraj was sentenced to 30 years in prison for planning to blow up the Herald Square subway station in 2004.
Activists say they are being unfairly targeted by homeland security officials for speaking out against their son's arrest. Siraj's father remains in custody.
A hearing will decide if the women will be sent back to Pakistan.
