Construction crews are set to begin work on a planned pedestrian tunnel under West Street Wednesday.
The 100-foot-long passage will connect the World Financial Center's Winter Garden to a concourse planned under the World Trade Center site, leading to the future PATH terminal and transportation hub.
It will be part of a pedestrian network eventually stretching from the Financial District almost to the Hudson River.
That larger underpass is expected to be finished by the end of 2009.
